FAQ
Questions, with the caveats left in.
If a contract, auditor, or insurer needs a specific certificate, read the ADISA and NIST answers before you book. Call 904-297-8201 when the written answer is not enough.
Yes. Copy off anything you still need before drop-off. DataZeroOne erases storage. We do not archive your personal data, and we do not recover it after a completed wipe.
If the only copy of something lives on that machine, it needs a new home before you hand the machine over.
Riverside, Jacksonville, Florida 32205, off the Roosevelt / Highway 17 exit from I-10. The exact street address is a private residence, so it is disclosed only after your appointment is confirmed.
Do not arrive unannounced. Call 904-297-8201 or send the appointment form.
It depends on the disk. A large hard drive takes longer than a drive that can run a built-in sanitize command. Written confirmation of the completed erasure is emailed within five business days. The wipe itself may finish sooner; the published window is the confirmation, not a promise of same-day pickup.
Windows and Linux desktops, laptops, and servers, plus internal or external drives that can be attached to a computer we can boot with RedKey. iOS, Android, and macOS are not offered yet.
Some firmware blocks USB boot, and some drives fail the sanitization command. If RedKey cannot finish a verified run, we say so. We do not issue a certificate for a wipe that did not complete.
RedKey boots instead of the operating system on the disk. The One-Go process then sanitizes the raw storage: software overwrite, or a hardware command the disk supports, depending on the media. On many SSDs and NVMe drives, a supported sanitize command reaches areas a file delete never touches. More overwrite passes are not automatically better.
Model, serial number, power-on hours, and wear counters can remain in drive firmware. Sanitization targets your data, not the disk’s identity.
No. NIST SP 800-88 is guidance, and NIST does not certify wipe products. RedKey follows Clear and Purge methods from that guidance and records the method it ran.
GDPR and HIPAA are duties on the organization that holds the data. A local erasure report helps you show what was done. It does not, by itself, make you compliant, and it is not a government seal. Your policy, authorization, and retention of the record are still yours.
RedKey previously held ADISA Product Claims Test certificates, including tests listed as valid through 31 January 2026. RedKey’s own documented-erasure page states that it does not currently hold independent third-party approval, and that reassessment is underway with no promised date.
DataZeroOne will not describe a lapsed test as a current certificate. If your contract requires an active independent assessment, say so before you book.
On RedKey USB Ultimate, a PDF can record the disk or device, the sanitization method, the date and time, and the result, plus customer, asset, or operator details when they are entered. Reports can include a unique ID and a digital signature. They are generated locally on the RedKey system.
The original home RedKey shows the result on screen and does not create that PDF. When you need a file, we use Ultimate. The illustration on the homepage is a sample, not a customer record.
Yes. Choose erase-and-return, or erase-and-recycle, when you schedule. Returned hardware is ready for a new operating system install, resale, or donation — the wipe does not install a new OS for you. Recycled hardware is not returned.
Cash, check, PayPal, Cash App, and Chime. If you need to pay by card, say so when you schedule and we will arrange PayPal or Stripe. The fee is quoted at scheduling. Nothing on this site is a published price.
We are legally and ethically obligated to report illegal content to the appropriate authorities. Do not bring a device to be wiped in order to hide a crime. The reporting duty is not optional.
No. DataZeroOne uses RedKey only: RedKey USB Ultimate, and the original home RedKey.
DataZeroOne is the successor to the Jacksonville practice published as JAXdata.pro. The phone number is the same: 904-297-8201. The previous inbox, barry@jaxdata.pro, still works. floorebarry@gmail.com is the public service address.
